Queens Park Rangers defender Amadou Mbengue has suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury. The 24-year-old was stretchered off during last Tuesday's 4-1 Championship win over Derby County and will now require surgery.

The club confirmed the news almost a week after the incident, stating the Senegalese centre-back sustained the ACL damage in that emphatic victory. Head coach Julien Stephan admitted the signs were worrying immediately after the match, where goals from Alfie Lloyd, Nicolas Madsen, Harvey Vale and Paul Smyth secured three points.

"We don't know exactly what the situation is with his knee, but it's never good to see a player like this come off with a lot of pain," Stephan told reporters. "It's never a good sign."

Mbengue joined QPR from Reading in July 2025 and had become a regular, making 53 appearances for the west London club. His absence is a major defensive setback as the team prepares to host Swansea City this Saturday. QPR's form has been mixed, with the last five results showing no wins, three draws and two defeats, including a 3-0 loss at Birmingham last weekend.

The club has not provided a timeline for his recovery, but ACL injuries typically involve a lengthy rehabilitation period. "Normally, when you play a game like this and you score four, you are very happy and very positive," Stephan added. "Unfortunately we had the Amadou situation and that's why it's a mix of feelings for us."

With Mbengue sidelined, Stephan must reorganise his backline ahead of the Swansea fixture. The next match at Loftus Road kicks off on 24 October.
